It's Thursday, and the wind is blowing so hard that the sea gulls have given up fly and St. Andrews Golf Links. Welcome to the open Championship!
In my opinion, it is the Championship where you'll find the most creative shot in golf making it so much fun to watch.Normally when watching a PGA Tour event in the US shows a player hit a towering drive and a little flip wig in green where the ball will stop on a dime.
In just 5 minutes today I saw Camillo Villegas hit the perfect station from the first tee, it was never exceed 15 metres from the ground. Then came Lee Westwood standing next to the infamous Road Hole bunker at 17 where instead of pulling off a lob wedge was flop the ball over the bunker received his putter and putted the ball up the slope and along the edge of the bunker to within 3 feet of the hole. then came Phil Mickelson at the 18th hole where his drive just past the Green and 50 metres on the left had hit. We all know he is probably the best wig player in the game, but he chose to putt.
When you add all the tall grass, Greens that are a roller coaster ride, bunkers, that were originally created by sheep, and that changes in a heart beat you have a recipe for a look at some of the most entertaining wave that you'll ever see and some truly humbled players.
So do yourself a favor and give it one of the display, is worth your time.
